Nutravet is proud to sponsor Nicola Jarvis of the Washington Riding Centre. Nicola is one of seven riders from the Washington Riding Centre (Tyne and Wear RDA) that have recently qualified to represent the North Region at the Riding for the Disabled National Dressage Championships in July.
The National Championships is RDA’s flagship event, bringing together hundreds of competitors of all abilities. All seven riders, whose ages range from 16 to 45, have significant challenges to overcome due to their varied disabilities. In order to qualify they were placed either 1st or 2nd in their class with a score of over 60%, at the Regional Qualifying competition in May.
Nicola is a 34 year-old, spina bifida, wheelchair user. She has ridden since she was 4 but had a break between 1994 and 2012, when she competed in wheelchair racing. She represented Great Britain in the 1996 Atlanta Paralympics, where she won two bronze medals in the 100m & 200m wheelchair races. She also went to Sydney in 2000 but didn’t compete due to injury. Nicola started riding again in August 2012 and this year will compete in the Grade V (Walk & Trot) class, which is open to riders of any disability who have not yet been graded according to their disability.
Nicola is planning to get graded this summer, which will mean that she will be classified according to her disability and in the future will compete against riders who experience similar physical challenges to herself.
Good luck!!
